Broadcast Journalism at the University of Iowa Summer Journalism Workshops for high school students- June 2013
"Using the state-of-the-art broadcast facilities of Daily Iowan TV, workshop students will produce broadcast pieces and leave Iowa City with a new understanding of broadcast journalism, not to mention broadcast clips to add to their portfolio."
"Instructors: Cliff Brockman, Wartburg College, and Terrence Thames, Drake University and Advanced Media Production Firm."
At the University of Iowa, my partner and I investigated the public pianos that are scattered around Iowa City. I learned how to write in a journalistic fashion, what are the right and wrong questions to ask, and how to film and edit using the latest equipment.
The day before our deadline, our tape was damaged and we rushed to retrieve additional interviews for our piece with only hours of daylight left. We reedited and added more clips and won the Perserverance Award for pulling through the deadline under pressure.
