ABOUT ALEX
Hi friends! I currently am a senior at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, IL. I am the oldest of four and have three younger brothers Luke (15), Jack (10), and Joseph (8), and our house is always bustling with Nerf gun wars, tackle football, and pickup soccer games. At Sandburg, I am a varsity tennis player, an active member of Model United Nations, a staff writer at my school newspaper, and am a proud member of National Honor Society. I have taken over seven Advanced Placement classes throughout high school and have maintained a 4.0 GPA. Five days a week, I'm a server at Smith Crossing, a retirement community. In my free time, I love to be with family, cook old school Italian, read at my local Barnes and Nobles with an iced Chai Tea, and play tennis with friends. My junior year, I had an amazing opportunity to become a partially certified scuba diver in Grand Cayman and fell in love with diving, a passion I plan to continue in the future. A few of my favorite reads are Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska by John Green, Divergent by Veronica Roth, Hemingway short stories. I love to not only read but write, Hemingway and Fitzgerald are two writers that have not only fascinated me with their works but have inspired my own writing style. With my passion for journalism and writing, I accepted a position as a student intern at the West Orland Park Life, a local magazine, this year to add some fun into my senior year. In college, I'd love to major or specialize in journalism along with minoring in Economics and Spanish. Next year, I will hopefully be at (fingers crossed) the University of Chicago or my other top choices, New York University, University of Southern California, Syracuse and Boston University. Whatever coast I do end up on, I definitely will be bringing lots of Hemingway and Fitzgerald works, my signature Doc Martens, and my writing skills.
